From Drips to Dry: The Pascoe Family's RoofCrafters Transformation

January , 2025 | 4 min. read

By David Toth

For Debbie Pascoe and her family, their Jacksonville home is more than just a place to live. Since moving to her humble abode in 2014 with her husband, Justin, and their two young children, Debbie has surrounded her family with love, fun, and the warmth that every person alike desires. Over the years, their beloved home has been filled with memories of theater (Debbie’s favorite hobby), acting performances, and 24 wonderful anniversaries with her husband.

Between running her own health coaching business and indulging in her passions, Debbie has invited creativity, laughter, and dreams into her residence. Yet, as she and Justin would discover years later, not all memories in a home are made with ease.

Debbie and her family’s peace was shaken when they noticed a problem that any homeowner dreads: a roof leak. Over time, their roof became brittle and unreliable, with leaks springing up, and having to be temporarily tarped more than 3 separate times.

Having a tarp on your roof is enough to cause anxiety in itself, but here in Florida where the winds and rains wreak havoc, the tarp would always eventually blow off and scatter quarter-sized pieces all over the neighborhood.

“The tarp would literally blow around, and every time we saw it starting to come off the roof, we worried about mold creeping in, especially with the leak so close to our son’s bedroom.”

The idea of water damage and mold infiltration affecting her family’s safety was enough to spur Debbie and Justin into action, and that’s where their story starts.

The Initial Inspection

Despite her frustration with an overly pushy door-to-door roofer who marked up their roof with chalk, and left without providing any explanation, Debbie reached out to David Toth at RoofCrafters, a lead estimator she’d met at a Clay County Chamber of Commerce event. She wanted a reputable company with the experience to take on such a big job with confidence.

“David Toth said, ‘We know what to do, and we’ll get it done.’ This statement alone brought me so much peace of mind before the project even began.”

David conducted his inspection on May 17th, 2022, and noted heavy granule loss. Unfortunately, the Pascoe family only had about 1 to 2 good years left on their roof. David ended up revisiting the home on the 25th of May, only to see even more damage, and immediately alerted a trusted public adjuster.

The Pascoe’s on Pause

Now, you may be asking yourself, “2022, why did this roofing project take so long to complete?” That’s a valid question, dear reader! With a slow-moving insurance claim process, a few tough hurricane seasons, and some thoughtful design choices to make, some roofing projects take longer than others.

The important thing to note though, is that the Pascoe family’s job was finally back in action in August of 2024, and was scheduled to be completed the following September.
The Project Prevails

Once RoofCrafters began on September 6th, 2024, Debbie was kept in the loop at every step, and the installation proceeded with the careful planning and professionalism she’d hoped for. With GAF shingles chosen for their durability, specifically the Timberline HDZ Shakewood line, and a fully dedicated crew at work, the Pascoe’s roof went from a brittle liability to a resilient, modern system built to withstand the challenges of Jacksonville’s climate.

“The first rain after the installation was so quiet, I was actually excited to hear the rain. I couldn’t stop smiling.”

Debbie took charge of her home’s future when she partnered with RoofCrafters to tackle her roofing needs. Thanks to her decision, her home isn’t just beautiful and leak-free - it’s equipped for the long haul! Debbie ensured new ridge vents were installed where none existed before, improving air circulation and making the entire house feel fresher, especially in the lanai. Now, because of Debbie’s proactive approach, her home welcomes rainy days without worry, and her son’s room is a safe, dry haven.

“Our goals were not only met but exceeded. Not only do we have much-needed peace of mind, but now, we feel so much more connected to this home.”

With a new roof over their heads, Debbie and her family have gained both confidence and comfort in the place they love most.
